Mid-Columbia Earth Month organizers and contest sponsor Mission Support Alliance announced the winners of the Mid-Columbia Earth Month Kids Essay and Video Contest today.

2011 Contest Recap

First place for group video goes to Meg Nelson, Logan Jackson and Kali Saueressig from Ruth Livingston School who submitted, Pasco’s Totally Awesome Earth Cleaners. The group will share a $250 cash prize.

First place individual awards each receive $100. They are:

  • Lucy Allen, Lewis and Clark Elementary School for her video and song, Richland Fought the Battle of Trash
  • Katelyn Dirham, Cascade Elementary School for her essay, Keeping it Green
  • Enterprise Middle School’s Naveena Bontham for her essay, Let’s Go Green

A special recognition was awarded to Jennifer Gonzalez, second-grade teacher at Cascade Elementary School for her environmental stewardship in the classroom.

An online vote resulted in People’s Choice Awards for

  • Pasco’s Totally Awesome Earth Cleaners video
  • Dirham’s Keepin' it Green essay

This is the first year for the essay and video contest. Seven entries were received by area school children who demonstrated how to conserve resources and protect our environment.
